Kate Gosselin Accuses Jon of Computer Theft, Phone Hacking

People.com: Reality TV star Kate Gosselin has filed a lawsuit accusing her ex-husband Jon of stealing her hard drive and hacking into her phone and computer to get material for a tell-all book.

The federal lawsuit says he took the material for a book called Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the WorldThe suit, filed Monday in Philadelphia, says the book was written by her ex-husband's friend, writer Robert Hoffman, but has since been pulled from Amazon because the material was obtained illegally.

The couple starred in the TV show Jon & Kate Plus 8, detailing life with their twins and sextuplets, before they separated in 2009 and later divorced

She lives in Sinking Spring, while he lives in Wyomissing. Both are in Pennsylvania's Berks County, outside Philadelphia. A lawyer who once represented Jon Gosselin did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

  1. This is great news!! How Jon didn't know this would come back to bite him is beyond me. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. What kind of man tries to destroy the mother of his children? He made his choices and now he's in the hot seat. I wish the best for Kate and the children. I hope it doesn't drag out for too long.

  2. Kate and Jon should learn to get along for the sake of the kids. The kids are old enough to where they can read what is being published on the internet or in magazines. Both Kate and Jon need to grow up. Hopefully, the judge will dismiss the lawsuit, and Kate and Jon will get on with their lives.

  3. Arlene I agree that Jon and Kate need to get along for the sake of their children, however Kate has every right to fight back on these vicious attacks that have been aimed at her for quite a LONG time! Kate has not said anything negative about Jon in the media but she is constantly ridiculed by him regardless of what she does. He appears to be the one that needs to grow up and get on with his life.

    1. BJ, My main concern is the children. I work as a Family Court judge, and it bothers me to see wives suing husbands, and husbands suing wives. The children most likely, are all very well aware of what is going on with their parents. The children love their mother and father, and by Kate and Jon "fighting", it causes stress and anxiety to the children. Not a good thing, at all. It is unfortunate that all of Kate and Jon's "dirty laundry", is posted all over the internet, and on magazine covers for the children to read, and see. So sad for the kids.

  4. With all due respect Ms Troum - there are times when it's impossible to get along with an ex. NO ONE should ever stand back and tolerate crimes against them by their ex, especially if an ex spouse is using their children as his shield of protection to do so.

  5. ZiggyFlo Like I stated, my main concern is the children's well being. We don't know for sure that a crime has been committed here. Just because a lawsuit is filed, doesn't mean that what is stated in the lawsuit, is true. That is up to the judge or jury to decide. There are many, many lawsuits filed daily, that are dismissed. In this case, we will just have to wait and see, what the outcome is. If the ex-spouse is found guilty of a crime, (or crimes) then, by all means, his punishment should fit the crime.

    1. If you really are a Family Court Judge you are certainly familiar enough with the courts to understand this was filed in federal court by two very well known lawyer who have the highest of credibility.

They aren't going to chance risking their careers on something superfluous. The fact that you seem very familiar with the Gosselin saga yet don't seem to be aware the case was filed in federal court everything else which goes along with filing a case in federal court makes me have doubts as to your claim of being a Family Court judge.

  6. I understand your concern Arlene. However, in order for the "dirty laundry" to stop being laundered to the public, Kate has to file a lawsuit against the ones airing the laundry. In this case, her own husband is the one allegedly defaming her and airing the laundry to the public. Kate did not state that she was suing her husband, others accessed the public documents (made public through the court system) and are creating more stories from that information. If you truly cared about the welfare of the children you would email the news media outlets and tell them to stop airing the laundry as opposed to blaming the victim for stopping the bullying. You would use your role as a "judge" to protect victims as opposed to further repressing their humanity.

  7. Fascinated Yes, I have already done my part, as far as I can, in regards to emailing the news media, and making telephone calls, asking them to stop airing the "dirty laundry". But, I am only one person. I can only imagine, what is going through the minds, of each of Kate and Jon's, six children. Hopefully, this will all be resolved rather quickly. Unfortunately, sometimes, these type of cases drag out in court.

  8. Welcome Arlene. It's nice to have you share your thoughts here! I agree that Jon & Kate have done their best to get along for this amount of time. However it was obvious that something was off with someone claiming to have hard drive files that they found in the trash? It really seemed to be an inside job, and Jon was to blame. Just because he doesn't have money, or you don't want this aired to the public, does Kate let him get away with it. Esp. since Jon was probably paid for the theft or her personal files? I hope that Kate goes after that troll that wrote the book, and hopefully this taught Jon a lesson. I doubt it though ;(

  12. I agree that parents need to tread carefully with their exes due to the consequences for their children, but I also feel that there are times that inaction can be harmful too.
    1. Kate is dealing with her issues in a court of law instead of the court of public opinion
    2. She does not stand to gain monetarily because these parties don't have money to pay her anyway
3 the slandering and abuse that continue to take place negatively impact her ability to gain employment
4 there is nothing to show that Kate is using any of this to prevent Jon from seeing the kids

  13. Top notch points, tash.

**Deleted and reposted due to errors.

Everyone seems to assume that Kate is hiding the action she is taking from her children.

Does anyone not think it possible she not only has fully informed them, she sought their input before she moved forward and they fully support her in this? These kids aren't babies anymore. They are old enough to grasp things which have gone on. Especially if they've been used by either parent.

  14. I agree with both Tash and Ziggy. Not only that but that they will also be required to talk to the judge when it goes to court.

  15. Looks like Jon is forcing himself to do another one of those interviews he hates so much, this time on ET. Must be feeling the need to garner some pity.

  16. Okay! I do not usually comment but do you not think that the man has a right to court before you accuse him. Kate does a lot of trash talk about Jon in the press. Kate was rude, obnoxious, and out right mentally abusive on that show.(PS she admitted to some of it in the People magazine article) Do you not believe in Karma?!? I do. Kate chooses and chose to live her life publicly. Because of that she takes a risk, that some person will write a unauthorized biography of her. (Hence why I am not on a reality show.) You all do not have any documentation or court records to make claims that he is involved. That is why they are in court. And yes there are cases that two respected attorneys will fight frivolous, unfounded cases. This is how the attorneys make money. If Kate is worried about not having a full time gig and does not want the scrutiny of the public, maybe she should go back to nursing. I have plenty of people who would do anything to have the opportunity to have received an education and use it to its full benefit.

  17. YouRSpecial... It would be nice if you extended that same courtesy to Kate. However, you uphold Jon and vilify Kaye. Jon boy got the same division of money as Kate but blew through his on booze, $200 bottles of champagne in Vegas, and indulging numerous women. Kinda hard to feel sorry for him. Good thing Kate put the kds earnings in trust to protect them. It is apparent that every time Jon gets desperate, he does an interview or two. I've never read a word about Kate trash talking Jon. You're going to have to cite an example. If Jon wants to live a "normal" life out of the media, then why the heck does he keep doing interviews? His actions in doing so speak loud and clear.

Baby Mama, and all...I'm still here and dealing with life one day at a time. I think about you all often just haven't felt up to posting. Hugs, xoxoxo!!

  18. YouRSpecial, thanks for taking the chance and saying what you did, I pretty much agree with you.

  19. I do give the same courtesy to Kate, but it felt like you all gave a big bash on Jon. My problem is that they are both in the wrong. If both want not to have public scrutiny, they should not do press. (Kate also) Jon seems to try to get regular jobs. Just like Kate he admitted that he made mistakes and is trying to move on. I do not believe it was just Kate's doing that there is a trust fund for those children. (I believe that in child actors (which is what the children were considered) labor laws that the money has to be put into a trust. I think he has to do interviews because of people like you who make him out to be a villain. Look I am not a fan of either one. I started watching the show when Kate was REAL not a plastic version of herself and the family was real. (I believe Jon and Kate loved each other) When Kate became a dictator I stopped watching, but I wanted to see what the kids looked like so I was sent here by google because of the People magazine. They both need to go back to their roots. Greed is a nasty green eyed devil and I think both Jon and Kate have it embedded in them. I just hope that the kids see through it and find lots of happiness and joy in amazing endeavors.

  20. Hello everyone! First off I want to say welcome to all of our new commenters. I always appreciate thoughtful communication. You don't always have to agree, but always be respectful of one another. I TRULY APPRECIATE THAT! Recently some new press has been going on about Jon. I hope that you would continue your thought on the next thread with me. XO
